Welcome to Iqra Islamic School’s Nursery Program

At Iqra Islamic School, our Nursery Program sets children on a path of learning and growth within a nurturing and Islamic environment. Our program is designed to be safe, exciting, and supportive, helping young children develop essential skills and a love for learning from an early age.

Manitoba Curriculum Integration

Our Nursery Program aligns closely with the Kindergarten Manitoba curriculum. This early exposure introduces students to many concepts and skills they will encounter in Kindergarten, giving them a head start in early reading, writing, and math.

Holistic Development

We emphasize the complete development of each child, addressing their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs. Believing that every child is unique, we provide personalized attention to help each one succeed. Our experienced and caring teachers employ a variety of methods and activities to keep children engaged and curious.

Islamic Values

At Iqra, Islamic values and teachings are integrated into daily activities. Children learn basic Islamic principles, prayers, and Quranic verses in an age-appropriate and enjoyable manner. Our aim is to foster a strong sense of identity and a lasting connection with their faith.

Play-Based Learning

We believe young children learn best through play. Our program includes activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, music, and outdoor play. These activities encourage exploration and creativity, helping children develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and social interactions.

Safety is a top priority at Iqra Islamic School. Our nursery classrooms are equipped with age-appropriate furniture and materials. We maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio to ensure each child receives ample attention and care. We strive to create a welcoming environment where every child feels valued and respected.

Parental Involvement

We view parents as essential partners in their child's education. We maintain open communication and encourage parents to participate in various activities and events. Regular updates and parent-teacher meetings keep parents informed about their child’s progress and involve them actively in their learning journey.

Curriculum Overview

Mathematics

Number Strand:

Children learn to count from 1 to 30 and backward from 10 to 1. They can count and describe groups of up to 10 objects, recognize familiar groups of 1 to 6 objects, and compare quantities.

Patterns and Relationships Strand:

Students recognize and create patterns using objects, sounds, and actions.

Shape and Space Strand:

Children sort and build 3D objects.

Science

The science curriculum for Nursery is organized into clusters covering various themes and skills:

Cluster 0: Overall Skills and Attitudes


  • Scientific Inquiry and Design Process: Students learn to observe, measure, and conduct investigations. They begin to develop skills in designing, constructing, and testing objects. This cluster emphasizes curiosity, asking questions, making predictions, seeking information, and cooperative learning.

Cluster 1: Trees


  • Understanding Trees: Students explore the parts of trees, their uses, and their seasonal changes. They learn terms like trunk, crown, branch, leaf, bark, root, and seed.
  • Human and Animal Interaction: They identify how humans and animals use trees, such as eating fruits or making homes in trees.
  • Seasonal Changes: They recognize how trees change with the seasons and that some trees lose their leaves in the fall.

Cluster 2: Colours


  • Colour Vocabulary and Concepts: Students use specific vocabulary to describe colors and learn to mix primary colors to create new ones.
  • Colour Exploration: They explore colors in their environment and learn to sort and classify objects by color.

Cluster 3: Paper


  • Characteristics of Paper: Students identify different kinds of paper and explore their properties, such as thickness, texture, and absorbency.
  • Uses of Paper: They learn which types of paper are suitable for different tasks, like soaking up spills or being easy to fold.
  • Design Process: They use the design process to create paper products for specific purposes, such as making a paper cup or envelope.
